One of the first Moscow beauties in Dyatkovo
Ivan Akhimovich Maltsov was happy in his marriage. His wife
was Kapitolina Mikhailovna Vysheslavtseva, one of the first
Moscow beauties. Here is the history of their meeting and
love. Ivan Akhimovich first met her in "Yusupov Garden"
where she was strolling with a curly-headed dark-complexioned
boy. The stranger turned out to be Kapitolina Mikhailovna,
the wife of V.L.Pushkin, a well-known poet at that time. The
boy Sasha was the future great poet A.S.Pushkin. God's ways
being inscruitable, Kapitolina Mikhailovna married Ivan Akhimovich
in 1806.
Maltsov Simeiz
At the border between the XIX and XX centuries Simeiz, a
constantly popular health-resort, belonged to the Maltsovs.
There is a legend, connected with the puchase of this health-resort.
In 1828 I.A.Maltsov was travelling in the Crimea with A.S.Griboedov.
While swimming in the sea, the young manufacturer lost his
wedding ring and was profoundly upset by it. Following A.S.Griboedov's
advice, I.A.Maltsov bought 30 dessiatinas (81 acres) of land
on the shore, where the ring had been lost. Thus, the ring
was believed to continue being a property of its owner.
Jar-fridge
Among the wonderful things, made at the Dyatkovo crystal
plant in the XIX century, there is a jar-fridge. To look at,
it is an ordinary jar. Only on the side of its handle there
is a droplike pocket with a wide mouth, which leads into the
jar. Ice is put into it and the jar is filled with a liquid
(kvass, milk, beer or any other). As a result we receive an
easy to handle, compact and ecologically harmless, portable
refrigerator for beverages.
Maltsov joke
Sergei
Ivanovich Maltsov was a man who was fond of playing tricks
on his guests. One of his favourite tricks was the following:
a jar was served on the table; inside, it was divided into
four sections, each containing a different beverage. The party
in full swing, the hospitable host Maltsov suggested filling
goblets with beverages from the four-sectioned jar. The guests
tried to get beverages out of it by bending the jar îr turning
it upside down, but no liquid came out of it. The secret was
quite simple: a straw should have been put into the mouth
of the required section, and the liquid easily flowed out
of the jar into the goblet.
Maltsov joke
Sergei Ivanovich Maltsov, the owner of the Dyatkovo crystal
plant, was one of the most prominent figures in the Russian
industry of the XIX century. He often invited foreign specialists
to work at his plant. One of them was a master from Germany
whose name was Petuff. This German word sounds like the Russian
word 'petukh', meaning 'a cock'. As a result, glass masters
from Dyatkovo called their German colleague 'petukh', in joke.
This German master was very skilful in making narrow-mouthed
vessels with apples on their bottoms. That was the reason
why Maltsov thought high of him. But one day Dyatkovo masters
played a joke on the German. In front of Maltsov they presented
him with a narrow-mouthed jar with a very amusing cock on
its bottom. Knowing Russian well enough, the German understood
the sense of the joke, but being a man with a good sense of
humour, he heartily joined the laughter of the Russian masters
and praised their work.
Maltsov money
A unique event in the history of money circulation in Russia
was the appearance of private paper money on the territory
of the Maltsovs' domain in the sixties of the XIX century.
The money nomination was 1, 2, 3 and 5 roubles. It was used
in trading operations alongside with state banknotes for many
years. Moreover, Maltsov enjoyed such a trust that his money
was valid and used in trading operations even in the neighbouring
gubernias (provinces).
The
present to V.I.Lenin
In 1919 three workers from the crystal plant were sent to
the Kremlin to present V.I.Lenin with the produce of the plant.
The presents were: a Constitution-book made of crystal, flower
vases with the portraits of K.Marx, F. Engels and K. Liebknecht,
a jar, two tumbler for pens and an ink-pot. V.I.Lenin had
a talk with the workers. He called the objects made by crystal
workers "wonderful things". The presents of Dyatkovo
masters are kept in the funds of V.I. Lenin's museum.
First cosmonaut in Dyatkovo
In May 1966 Dyatkovo and the crystal plant were visited
by the world first cosmonaut Yu.A.Gagarin. The honourable
guest was presented with a symbolic key to the town. Yu.A.Gagarin
wrote his testimony in the book for prominent guests on visiting
the museum of the crystal plant.
