Uglich Watch Factory

Foundation of the Russian town Uglich dates back to the 937 year. It is one of the ancient towns on the Upper Volga riverside. Since old times craftsmen, blacksmiths and jewellers have became a pride of Uglich. Their traditions are still alive. A local chronicle of the middle 17th century describes the chiming clocks, which were placed on the bell towers of the Transfiguration Cathedral and the Resurrection monastery. By the way, the old movement, dated approximately to the 1730 year, has still remained.
The craftsmen’s traditions were retained through the centuries by inhabitants of the Uglich town. In 1940 the Uglich factory was founded, where experimental production of precision technical stones was made. Ten years later the first production line of assembling watches for women was started. And soon, being very miniature for that time, a movement of the 16 mm caliber was developed. Nowadays the watch factory “Chaika” is the largest modern manufacturer of watches in Russia having 4000 workers. The factory produces 1,5 – 2 million watches a year presenting three mechanical calibers and watches with quartz Japan movements.
The name “Chaika” is connected with a “call-sign” of the first Russian woman-astronaut Valentina Tereshkova. It happened during her first year of the space flight in 1963.
Among “Chaka’s” regular customers there are companies from the USA, France, England, Canada, Japan, Latin America, etc.
Main products of the factory are elegant wrist watches, pocket watches, watches-rings, watches-pendants, watches with titanium nitride plating, watches with chromium and gilded bracelets decorated by diamond treatment and multicolored dials of original form.
“Chaika” watches are not only precision timepieces, but, thanks to its skillful designers, they are modern adornments. That is why the watches, made by the Old Russian style, are on a special place in the range of the “Chaika” products. These watches are made using enamel, filigree work, semi-precious stones.
Advanced technology, modern and precision equipment, progressive materials, implementation of scientific achievements of domestic and foreign engineering, professional skillful workers ensure a high reputation of the “Chaika” watches in Russia and abroad.
Chaika watch factory complies with International Watch Standards “ISO 9001-2000” for durability and outstanding design.
