Movements of the Vostok Watches

Automatic

Automatic watches (or self-winding) are watches with a mechanical movement which are wound by the motion of the wearer's arm rather than through turning the winding stem. A rotor that turns in response to motion winds the watch's mainspring. If an automatic watch is not worn for a day or two, it will wind down and need to be wound by hand to get it started again. Typically, an automatic watch will have a power reserve of up to 36 hours. Such watches can last as long as 40 hours.

Hand-wound

A mechanical watch is powered by a mainspring in a housing called a barrel. The mainspring when wound by hand, unwinds very slowly, transmitting power to a system of interconnected gearwheels called the gear train. This in turn is connected to the escapement mechanism consisting of a wheel and a pallet fork which transmits impulses to the balance wheel, making it oscillate. This is the element which makes the characteristic ticking noise. There is a further train which moves the hands of the watch. A hand-wound mechanical movement dates back to the 14th century. It is made up of at least 130 parts assembled in the three main categories which are:
the source of energy
the regulating parts
the display

The number of component parts is much higher in so-called complicated watches (date, phases of moon, fly-back hand, etc.). Most of “Poljot” watches are complicated.

Chronograph

Chronograph is a watch that includes a built in stopwatch function - i.e., a timer that can be started and stopped to time an event. There are many variations on the chronograph. Some operate with a center seconds hand which keeps time on the watch's main dial. Others use sub-dials to time elapsed hours, minutes and seconds. “Poljot” uses both. Some chronographs can be used as a lap timer (also known as "flyback" and "split seconds"). The accuracy of the stopwatch function will commonly vary from 1/5th second to 1/100th second depending on the chronograph. Watches that include the chronograph function are themselves called "chronographs." When a chronograph is used in conjunction with specialized scales on the watch face it can perform many different functions, such as determining speed or distance (such as "tachymeter" and "telemeter".) Do not confuse the term "chronograph" with "chronometer." The latter refers to a timepiece, which may or may not have a chronograph function, that has met certain high standards of accuracy set by an official watch institute in Switzerland.

Day / Night

A watch with moon phase indicator that keeps track of the phases of the moon. A regular rotation of the moon is once around the Earth every 29 days, 12 hours, and 44 minutes. Once set, the moon phase indicator accurately displays the phase of the moon.

Chronograph

A watch that includes a built in stopwatch function - i.e., a timer that can be started and stopped to time an event.

Union of high quality and commercial success

The viability of the chosen strategy is now time-proven. A vast multitude of people both in Russia and abroad boasting "Vostok" watches and various international prizes awarded for high quality and commercial success testify to this. Still, Vostok is far from being self-content with their achievements. They are always trying to look ahead, pursuing new ways to broaden their market presence.

Thus, in 1996 Vostok started a partnership with US "Capital Trading" company aiming to create a new generation timepiece. The synergy of traditional "Vostok" austere design and the world's latest watch-marking trends is a cornerstone of this new project launched into the oncoming century. Time goes by, bringing changes into everything - Vostok introduce innovative technologies, new styles of watches, one generation of watchmakers follows another. Yet, one thing remains unchanged with us - as fifty years ago Vostok makes for you timepieces you can rely upon.

Every year the quality of the Vostok factory watches gets a high world appraisal. In 1995 the factory got the international diamond "Quality Star" and the certificate "The Leader of the Russian economy", and in 1998 - the Diploma "100 best goods of Russia", in 2000 - the prize of the International Association ADM "The enterprise of 2000".

Four certificates that appraised the high quality of production of the Vostok factory were awarded on 29.09.2004 in Tchistopol. The general manager of the factory Vladislav Tsivilyn was given the certificates, attesting the high quality of chronometers and the correspondence of the management system both to Russian GOSTs and international standards.

The first from the given certificates - GOST R - confirms the correspondence of the quality of Tchistopol watches to the Russian standards.

The second certificate - the one of the military Register - confirms the professionalism and quality of Tchistopol workers while fulfilling the state order of military agency.

The third certificate is given by the Russian Register to state the quality of the output and management.

The fourth certificate of the international net of certification JQNET confirms the expediency to the international quality standards.

For last five years the factory has got a number of international and Russian awards for the commercial prestige and a high level of marketing and the latest International watch-show has marked the watch 2414 Komandirskie with the Diploma "The watch of year". At present day the wide choice of Vostok watches can satisfy the demands of the most exacting customers.
